Yuting Joy Du
Yuting Joy Du is a graduating Senior at Tyler School Of Art and Architecture, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM. Born in the 1990's in Southern China, she grew up in an environment where the traditions of a conservative family collided with the rapid development of society. China’s considerable population and complex social environment are reflected in her artwork.
Yuting Joy Du is interested in observing people in society with an objective stand. She examines individuals from all facets of society; the unique outliers, the self-disciplined, the emotionally stable, or even those struggling with substance abuse problems. The wide variety of people in the world remind her of the fact that human beings are not machinery and are diverse in many ways. The existence of diversity is the most amazing phenomena of the human race. Her pursuit is to promote this beauty through the creation of jewelry and metal objects.
Yuting Joy Du is currently working on creating compositions composed of similar flat hand patterns. Fingers and palms are made for the tools humans use to grasp and hold things. The different gestures with slight twists and turns convinced her that the gestures of hands are often the expression of emotional change and can, therefore, reflect social circumstances.
She believes art is an indispensable part of our society and as a kind of aesthetics, art can reflect the fashions, morals, and emotions of the time. During the past five years of learning how to make jewelry, she worked her way up from using simple techniques and materials to using 3D printing and computer aided design. Yuting Joy Du has explored different symbols, proxies, shapes, and materials to express her thoughts and opinions on the social environment and these are the themes she would like to continue to examine in future works.
