I am an artist with a background in engineering, jewelry, product design, and 3D printing. When I began my education at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, I was primarily interested in learning how to create jewelry through the process of computer aided design. Recently, I’ve been integrating my other interests as a maker into my work and learning new skills that are allowing me to realize my work in a new way. I am particularly interested in creating environments in virtual reality that create a connection between my artificial worlds and the real world through physical objects. My goal is to create immersive atmospheres, environments, props, and objects that evoke strong emotions.
I’m attempting to explore how a space can impact your mental state while completely taking you out of the real world. I’m fascinated by the emotions that film and video games can evoke. How can I make viewers feel uneasy, serene, or nostalgic? How can I fully immerse them into the narrative I’m attempting to convey? By using computer aided design software, I’m able to answer these questions through virtual environments and the objects that I make to accompany them. Virtual reality currently only offers the viewer to engage two of their five senses: sight and sound. I’m enabling another sense, touch, by having the viewer interact with my objects while perceiving the virtual world around them, causing an even more immersive experience.
